Video Emails via BombBomb

BombBomb - Video Email Marketing with a discount for churches!

The other day I was browsing my twitter feed and I saw a recommendation for a company called BombBomb. BombBomb is a video email marketing company.  At first I thought they probably just had you put an image of your video in an email, and when recipients click on it, it would take them to a video hosting site.  But that’s not what this company does.  They have a system which allows you to embed real videos that stream directly to the client computer.  The videos work consistently across multiple email clients and also on mobile platforms too!

After browsing their site and seeing they had a sweet ministry discount, I sent an email to some of our church staff and said perhaps we should consider sending out video emails.  I received this response from the Senior Pastor:

“I LOVE the sounds of this.  When can we get it up and running?!!?”

To which I replied,

“Send me the video, and I’ll do the rest!”

Shortly after that I received a video from the pastor (apparently it’s pretty easy for pastors to turn on a camera and start waxing eloquent!).  I signed up for a trial account with BombBomb, and started playing around with it.  It was super easy to use and I liked their use of current technologies (HTML5) and a few new things I hadn’t seen before – like real time analytics showing how many people received your email, how many opened it, and how many watched the video.

Then, my phone rang – it was Darin Dawson, the Co Founder of BombBomb asking me about how my experience was and if he could help in any way.  I was impressed and decided to sign up for a month of service with the company.  I created a new HTML template, uploaded the video, imported our contact list, and sent out our first mass video email – all in a very short amount of time!  I then sat back and watched the real-time stats – very cool!

I believe this is a great tool for ministries and churches to step up their strategy for getting out a message to the congregation effectively.  Many people actually prefer to watch a short video of their pastor, then read through a long winded, plain text email (even if it’s in a nice looking template!)  The analytics showed us that we got far higher than average responses from the video and some people actually used social media to share it – that’s a win win!

If you’re not already using video emails as part of your communication strategy at your church or ministry, you should consider BombBomb.  They are also currently offering free HTML email template design for ministries.  It doesn’t get much better than that!
